Euthanasia

With compassion, pet euthanasia provides a gentle farewell, relieving pain and discomfort.

Saying goodbye to our cherished family pet is a difficult decision to make, so our end of life procedures are done in a quiet and private room in the hospital. We also offer house call euthanasia where one of our veterinarians and technicians will come to your home to do the procedure. When you are ready to say goodbye, a sedative is administered and allowed to take effect usually about 10 minutes. Once your cat is settled and relaxed the final injection is given. We offer cremation services to look after your pet’s body once the procedure has been completed. Please ask our staff to help with the options available for these services.

When should I consider pet euthanasia?

Please book an appointment to discuss the quality of life with one of our veterinarians.

What is the process for cat euthanasia?

We generally like to sedate a cat before the intravenous drug for euthanasia is administered. The sedation administered intramuscularly takes approximately 10 minutes to take effect. Once your cat is quiet and relaxed we will administer the barbiturate medication intravenously.

Can you stay with your cat during euthanasia?

We welcome the opportunity to have owners stay with their cats at the time of euthanasia but understand the choice of not attending the procedure.

What is the cost of at home or in clinic euthanasia?

Please call our hospital for prices on euthanasia at home or in the clinic.

Do you offer pet bereavement support service?

We allow our clients and their family the opportunity to stay as long as they like with their cat once the euthanasia procedure is complete. Once you feel ready to leave our staff will follow your instructions for cremation. We offer private cremations where the ashes are returned to the hospital in your choice of a tasteful urn or a group of cremations where your cat is cremated, and ashes are not returned. Some clients do opt to take care of their own cat’s remains, and we are happy to oblige with this request.
